Star is an early-season Southern Highbush blueberry developed in Florida, highly valued for its uniform ripening, high yields, and excellent berry quality. The bush is vigorous, upright, and open, typically reaching 5–6 feet in height, making it suitable for both commercial fields and home gardens.
The berries are large, light-blue, and firm with a mildly sweet flavor and very good scar (detaches cleanly from the stem), which makes them ideal for fresh markets. One of Star’s key advantages is its concentrated ripening, meaning most of the crop can be harvested in just 2–3 pickings—reducing labor costs in commercial production.
Chill requirement is 300–400 hours, so it thrives in regions with mild winters, particularly the southeastern U.S. and other warm-temperate climates. It flowers late enough to avoid frost damage but still produces fruit very early (often ripening in April–May, depending on location).
